What Is the Amex Optima Platinum Card?

The American Express Optima® Platinum Card is a revolving credit card — not a charge card — issued by American Express to a specific subset of existing cardholders. It is not the same as the Amex Platinum Card (the premium travel card).

The Optima Platinum exists as a revolving credit option within the Amex ecosystem, primarily for cardholders who carry balances. It is invitation-only and not publicly available through Amex’s website.

How Do You Get the Optima Platinum?

The Optima Platinum is not publicly available. You can only receive it through:

  1. An upgrade offer from an existing Amex Optima card
  2. A targeted invitation for eligible Amex cardholders
  3. A legacy account conversion

If you’re looking for a publicly available Amex card with rewards:

Is It Worth Keeping?

Reasons to keep it:

  • The fixed APR (see snapshot above) may be below your other revolving card rates — check the pricing data
  • Long-standing account age on your credit report if you’ve held it for years

Reasons to close or downgrade:

  • It earns no rewards whatsoever (0% on all purchases)
  • The annual fee buys no travel perks, lounge access, or consumer protections

Current Cardmember Agreement

The current cardmember agreement is linked directly in the card resources — see the snapshot above for the direct PDF link from American Express.
